There are four categories of the CAST Outstanding Teaching Award:
A teaching award in the College of Applied Science and Technology recognizes exceptional dedication to and delivery of instruction that is thoughtful and that is recognized as outstanding by peers and students.
A faculty or staff member may be nominated by a peer, unit head, or may self-nominate for a College teaching award. The faculty or staff member must have a minimum of 3 semesters of IDEA and other evaluative data related to teaching performance at Illinois State University. Relevant teaching evaluation data must be while teaching in the appropriate category indicated above. That is, you cannot carry over teaching evaluations earned from one category to another category to meet the 3 semester requirement.
All submitted materials will be evaluated by a sub-committee of the CAST Council and the final determination of recipients in each category will be made by the Dean of CAST. Award recipients will be presented with a plaque and will receive $500 in operating funds in recognition of the achievement.
Pre-tenure Category:
Previous award winners are not eligible for nomination.
All other Categories:
Previous award winners are eligible for nomination five years after their last award.
Faculty or staff members who would like to be considered for the CAST Outstanding Teaching Award may apply online using the application link above. Materials required include the following:
Statement of Teaching Philosophy (750 words maximum); a full curriculum vitae (uploaded as a PDF file) with specific Teaching items highlighted, including list of courses taught, additional instructional activities participated in with students, instruction-related activities with University colleagues, and instruction-related activities with non-university colleagues; a Summary of Teaching Evaluations which include DFSC or SFSC performance (NTT, Pre-Tenure, and Tenured categories only) and IDEA course evaluation (750 word maximum); and a Letter of support from Chair/Director or Dean (uploaded as a PDF file).
