Dr. Harpel is the Human Development & Family Science (HDFS) program coordinator and serves as the HDFS CFLE Approved Program contact. She is certified by the Gottman Institute to teach relationship workshops, including the Bringing Baby Home and Seven Principles for Marriage workshops. She is also a Legacy member of the National Council on Family Relations, serving as the President-Elect of the NCFR Affiliate Councils and a member of the Board of Directors.

Dr. Harpel's primary research focuses on the impact of technology on the pregnancy experience and the use of technology for family building during pregnancy. She also conducts Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research and serves on thesis committees for students in various FCS majors.
